On Saturday, 10 October 2026, Democracy4all and the Greek Forum of Refugees will participate in two activities at the TRANSEUROPA Festival in Athens, organised in cooperation with European Alternatives.

10 October, 09:30–11:00 | Migrant Political Participation Training

Are you interested in political participation, community leadership or becoming more involved in public life?

Join us for an interactive training bringing together people with different backgrounds and experiences.

We will explore opportunities for political participation, from community organising and campaigning to standing for election, as well as the barriers and challenges that people with migrant and refugee backgrounds may encounter.

The session brings together four contributors:

Maguy Ikulu, a Belgian-Congolese jurist and former refugee who now serves as a municipal councillor in Ganshoren, Brussels.

Rasha Shaaban, Egyptian-Swedish activist and European Alternatives Board Member.

Yonous Muhammadi, Managing Director of GFR, who will speak about political participation of Migrants and Refugees in Greece and share his experience of political participation and his candidacy in the 2019 European Parliament elections in Greece.

Niccolò Milanese, Director of European Alternatives.

The training offers participants an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about different pathways into public and political life.

Places are limited, and registration is required.

We particularly welcome registrations from people with refugee and migrant backgrounds who are interested in political participation and community engagement.

10 October, 17:00–18:00 | European Call for Migrant and Refugee Political Rights

Join us again in the afternoon for a public discussion on political rights and participation across Europe.

Yonous Muhammadi will present the ongoing initiative in Greece concerning voting rights for migrants and refugees in local elections.

Together with participants from other European countries, the panel will discuss experiences of political participation, existing barriers and proposals for European cooperation on migrant and refugee political rights.

The afternoon discussion is open to everyone.
