Democracy4all is built on a framework of actions designed to strengthen active participation, political empowerment and equal representation for people with refugee and migrant backgrounds.

Our goal is to open meaningful pathways to political participation by bringing to light the institutional and social barriers that restrict participation, and by promoting a more inclusive and democratic decision-making system.

To achieve this vision, our work is organized around three main pillars:

1. Information & Support

We provide information on rights and the importance of political participation, while strengthening understanding and connections both within communities and across wider society.

We organize:

  • roundtable discussions and public dialogues
  • workshops on rights and participation
  • information and awareness campaigns

2. Leadership & Political Empowerment

We support people who want to take on roles, responsibility and visibility in public life by building skills, confidence and networks. Through targeted leadership and political empowerment actions, we open pathways towards political leadership and meaningful representation.

We deliver:

  • training in leadership skills, public speaking and democratic participation
  • mentoring and peer-learning spaces for sharing experiences
  • networking with political actors, institutions and allies, so community voices reach decision-making spaces

3. Advocacy for Political Rights (Voting & Fair Citizenship Pathways)

We advocate for the expansion of voting rights and bring the public conversation back to fair, effective and humane citizenship pathways. For us, participation is not “decoration” or symbolism. It is political equality in practice.

We work through:

  • public advocacy, statements and interventions, grounded in evidence on barriers to participation
  • sustained dialogue and institutional pressure with municipalities, political parties, civil society and public authorities
  • advocacy for voting rights in local elections and for citizenship procedures that are accessible, transparent and human

Our actions are open, collaborative and constantly evolving — and we aim for them to have a clear advocacy purpose, rather than being merely symbolic.

Whether you are a community member, part of an organization, or an engaged citizen, you can take part and contribute. Together, we are building a democracy that belongs to everyone.

Awareness

We believe that meaningful political participation cannot exist without a society that recognizes and embraces diversity.

We facilitate community events, campaigns, and hands-on workshops to build bridges of understanding and advance a shared vision of coexistence and participation.

Mobilization

At Democracy4all, mobilization means providing communities with the space, skills and opportunities to engage effectively in politics and public decision-making. To move from silence to active participation and collective advocacy.

Our goal is to build a sustainable movement for participation, leadership and representation, with those who are too often pushed to the margins at its center. For us, mobilization is not just about showing up or being included on paper; it is an act of political equality and collective empowerment.

Self-Advocacy

For us, self-advocacy means not accepting inequality as something to endure, but actively demanding better living conditions.

Self-advocacy is the ability to stand up for your rights in a democratic way, and to advocate for better living conditions. At Democracy4all, we believe that people from refugee and migrant backgrounds should have the first and last say when it comes to their needs and their place in society. That is why our work is grounded in promoting self-advocacy.

Campaigns

Democracy4all’s campaigns are a living mechanism for advocacy, dialogue and collective mobilization.

Through our campaigns, we bring the demands, voices and contributions of people with refugee and migrant backgrounds to the forefront, and we push for a society that resists racism, xenophobia and intolerance.
